I’m Back

More and more changes :) For a while I was running my own web server. From there I had the basics, a web site of course my own blog, forum. I also had links to services I used like Flickr, YouTube and so forth. Nothing was really updated often, the web site was plain but it was what I wanted and it allowed me the chance to learn a lot about running a very small web server etc.

And that was great, I don’t have a big bandwidth pipe but not a problem. At first I saw no hits, then after a few days 1 or 2 hits a day. More time goes by and it increases to about 10 to 20 hits per day, and that’s where it stayed for a few months. Which was perfect, my internet cable bandwith was 6mbs down and 512kbs up and it handled the daily traffic with no problems, I didn’t even notice.

But and there is a but that started to change about a month ago, now I’ve done little with any part of my web server, made a few updates but nothing to write home about. But for whatever reason I started to get a lot of hits, and I mean a lot, to the point that I couldn’t do anything anymore, not just because all of my little bandwidth was being all used up but even my computer was slow with resources all being used to handle the demands.
And I now have some answers to what was happening, I wasn’t being attacked like I first thought but instead a forum I was running became popular, even now I still have no idea on why but it was. So what I did was shut down the entire web server and leave it off until things settle down and I get my bandwidth back, this would take a lot longer then I thought.
So this brings me to the changes, I’ll still run a web server for now, but it only contains a web page saying that it’s all shut down. I’m not really interested in running a somewhat popular forum or anything of the sort, it was just something I wanted to do to learn and play with.

Now for the second change, Yahoo sucks to a degree. And I’ve started to clean a lot of stuff out. First my computer now for what I used to use on the internet. I started logging to web sites I haven’t used for a long time and have no plans to start and closing my accounts. Everything is going smoothly until I reach Yahoo, nasty little buggers. I quickly find that most of their services I was part of I couldn’t close without closing everything. So after some thinking decided screw it, I really want most of this gone and if I have to make a fresh start then so be it. So I’ve decided on a new Yahoo id, created it with Yahoo Messenger and deleted my old Yahoo id and everything it was connected elzear_ca. Only thing that I’m disappointed about what when I created my new Yahoo id, Yahoo also created an e-mail with their version of online e-mail. Their e-mail blows chunks of :) and I really don’t want it, but for now that doesn’t seem to be an option. So unfortunately I’ll have one service from Yahoo that I really don’t want but there it is. Maybe after some time when I don’t use they’ll just automatically close it themselves, leave it to Yahoo.
